About Buddy's Bagels Tamiami

Buddy's Bagels on South Tamiami Trail is the Sarasota bagel shop many locals still know as Lox & Egg Bagel Company. The name changed, but we still bake bagels fresh every morning from the Lox & Egg menu, including many of the original recipes. Come in for a warm bagel and cream cheese, a breakfast sandwich on your way to work, or a deli lunch like pastrami, a tuna melt, or whitefish salad. Eat in, or order ahead online for quick pick-up. We also cater office breakfasts, family gatherings, and Jewish holidays with bagel platters, lox displays, deli trays, and coffee boxes. Plenty of free parking in the plaza. Open daily, 7 AM to 2 PM.

This was the first time as a group that we used your catering service. And let me tell you it was wonderful. The food remained hot and fresh the whole time, and Amber did a wonderful job. She was very pleasant and professional. Everyone couldn't thank me enough for putting this event together, had a great time and really enjoyed the food. We plan on using your service for future events. Please thank all your staff for us.

I used to love this place but recently it’s gone way down hill. I was in today and the bagel itself was much smaller than it used to be and more expensive. I paid over $11 for a bagel with one egg, steak, and a tiny piece of cheese that I didn’t even taste. I got it on the jalapeño bagel which was dry and not made how it used to be. It was darker in color (maybe a different base or flour??) and tasted old. It doesn’t even come with chips or a drink. I’m very sad, as this place used to have a good vibe and friendly staff and samples and no longer does. I will no longer stop by for an overpriced bagel here.

Listen up, mortals: I walked into Buddy's expecting a normal bagel joint, maybe a cute little schmear situation. What I got instead was a full-blown religious experience wrapped in an everything bagel. The Chicken Bacon Melt? Bro. BRO. This thing is basically what happens when grilled, tender chicken and crispy bacon decide to elope with an entire wheel of melted cheese in Vegas, and the bagel officiates the wedding while chugging iced tea. The chicken was so juicy and perfectly grilled it whispered sweet nothings like “I’ve been marinated in pure sunshine and good decisions.” The bacon? Crispy enough to audition for a Rice Krispies commercial—snap, crackle, pop, but make it seductive. Then the cheese hits: molten, gooey, lava-level indulgence that stretches like it’s auditioning for a slow-motion Instagram reel. All this decadence gets hugged by that chewy, perfectly toasted bagel (I went everything, because why settle for basic when you can have sesame-poppy-onion-garlic drama?). I took one bite and immediately filed for divorce from every other sandwich I’ve ever loved. My taste buds held a parade. Strangers in the restaurant started slow-clapping. A toddler pointed and said “

Came for lunch. Got Nova Lox bagel sandwich. Solid lox, onions, tomato, capers and cream cheese on an everything bagel. Overall tasty traditional Noxa Lox bagel combo with decent sized portions. The combo came with the sandwich, pickle and chips. The food hit the spot and reminded me of a good east coast Jewish Deli but in Sarasota Florida. Would recommend to stop in and give it a try.

What used to be my go-to bagel shop in Sarasota, is now an empty shell of what it once was. Call the previous owners whatever bad names you want, but they ran a well oiled machine. The bagels were fresh, tasty, were the right size and had just the right amount of schmear (cream cheese). On this most recent visit (I haven’t been back since they changed hands and the word of mouth wasn’t great), I was surprised to find that most of the display cases were empty with a single tub of cream cheese and some cold cuts. The baked goods didn’t look very appetizing. The t-shirts seemed a bit tacky. This place would normally be filled with people enjoying their meals and on this visit it was mostly empty. The service was the only thing that was decent, the cashier asked how my day was and the lady who prepped my bagel was very enthusiastic. The bagel itself didn’t taste fresh. It was also smaller than what they used to be. I paid for extra cream cheese and felt like I received what should be a normal amount. Overall I feel like this was not worth $4.50 for a hard bagel with “extra” cream cheese. Unfortunately it looks like Sarasota has lost the only great bagel shop in town.
